Schoolwork, for the most part, is assigned to be completed in school. All students are given time during the school day to complete assigned work. Some students may not be able to complete assignments during the time allowed in school. That work should be completed at home. Parents can expect that the time spent on homework will increase in the upper grades. A general time guide for homework suggested by the Archdiocese is as follows:
Kindergarten 5 minutes
Primary (Grades 1 – 3) 15 to 30 minutes
Intermediate (Grades 4 – 6) 30 to 60 minutes
Junior High (Grades 7 and 8) 60 to 90 minutes
If the amount of homework is questioned, please contact the individual teacher.
St. Lucy Parish Catholic School offers a Homework Hotline. Parents can call in on a daily basis to check on their child’s assignment. Call 554-1801 and the extension numbers listed beside the teacher’s name on the faculty page.
In addition, classroom teachers have their own webpage which is updated daily with assignments. All teacher websites can be accessed by visiting stlucysschool.com. Parents with children in grades 1 – 8 can access their child’s grades at www.optionc.com. Passwords must be obtained by the parent / guardian from the school office.
If the student is absent from school, make-up work after the return to school must be completed within the same period as the absence. For example, if the student is absent one week, make-up work must be completed one week after return to school. This does include week-end days. For long term assignments where the student has known of the assignment for at least two weeks the assignment is due upon returning to school. No additional time will be given.
